The Dade county S.W.A.T. Team (Special Weapons and Tactics) is comprised of seasoned officers who have special training in emergency situations. The unit’s specially trained personnel provide tactical response to hostage situations, barricaded persons, sniper and terrorism incidents, work or school place violence, and high risk search warrants and warrant arrest. They also support road deputies on high risk calls for service when needed. S.W.A.T. members train rigorously on a weekly basis. S.W.A.T. marksmen are highly trained and disciplined to make precision rifle shots from several hundred yards away. The team also utilizes ‘less lethal’ weapons such as the Taser, bean bag shot gun rounds, and various chemical agents, all used whenever possible to prevent the loss of human life.
