Sheriff Ray Cross spoke today at the Optimist Club luncheon.
His topics included the Citizens Academy which began last Tuesday evening, with 20 citizens in attendance, and will continue until the 10 week course time has been completed. There will also be 3 bonus classes that will be offered to those who attend all 10 of the previous sessions. Beginning at 6PM tonight, the Dade County Sheriff’s Office will be conducting the first Sheriff’s Citizens Academy course. The Drug Interdiction Team, composed of Sergeant Matt Cole, Deputy Scott Parker, and Deputy Eric Hartline, confiscated over $30,000 in a traffic stop Thursday night on I-24. Officer Hartline stopped the vehicle for following too closely. Deputy Hartline noticed a Strong marijuana odor and searched the vehicle. He found $30,656 in cash hidden in the vehicle.
